Boxing and Self-Defense

NO EGOS NO ATTITUDES...Just Regular folks having a great time.

VARIETY

There is so much for you to learn, and every class is different.
Always Changing - Never Boring.
Classes include:

  • Partner Drills: Mitt drills, trigger drills, and chain drills to help you develop strong offensive and defensive skills.
  • Equipment Drills: Heavy bags, speed bags, and double end bags to help develop attributes like power, timing, rhythm, and speed.
  • Circuit Training: A continuous string of boxing and fitness exercises to ensure that you keep moving and practice what you've learned.
  • Sparring: A friendly game to test your skills and measure your progress

HEALTH

Our goal is a holistic exercise routine.
Physically, we balance stretching, strength building, and cardiovascular development...
oh yes...you will sweat!
Boxing will help your body to become leaner, more flexible, and it will take your stamina to new levels.
Mentally, I can think of no better way to relieve stress while developing confidence at the same time. Boxing provides a great metaphor for understanding other aspects of life.
Classes are taught with a healthy sense of humor, while making serious progress.

SAFETY

Since boxing is a new activity for most people, we provide a safe comfortable environment that makes it easy to learn.
No Egos...No attitudes...
Just encouragement, motivation, and friendly cooperation.

SELF-DEFENSE

We practice an early American style of boxing.
This "old school" pugilism is better suited for self defense and MMA because it was originally practiced bare-knuckle, and it doesn't assume that you will be wearing safety gloves or have a referee enforcing the rules.
(yes, we do wear quality safety equipment)
Boxing, in it's earlier forms, addressed elbows, knees, head butts, and hip tosses... things that could save your butt in the street if the other person isn't "playing by the rules".

OPPORTUNITY

Boxing is a great starting point for self-defense and fitness. It teaches you how to stay on your feet, and it works well for all levels of experience and conditioning. Those who
are looking for greater challenges will have optional chances to learn a number of
other western fighting systems. Some members choose to practice kick boxing, early american (catch style) submission wrestling, and western military hand-to-hand (CQC) tactics. You can combine these western fighting systems with good old western empiricism to form a truly mixed martial art (MMA). (Also see: ESP and Tony C)

COMMUNITY

Our members are diverse in age, gender, and physical conditioning.
Everyone works at their own level.
Some need to be challenged while others need to be helped along.
A culture of mutual respect and courtesy is what allows this diverse group to work so well together.
We believe that the best way to achieve maximum benefit and skill, is to have a steady
long-range training program.
We also believe that the most successful way to do this, is through an enjoyable fitness activity that can be shared with friends.
We are always looking for people with character, and who value friendships.
